Overview: Sunscreen

Please keep in mind that I give A LOT of information in this video which is why it’s so long. I did very little rambling and tried to stay on point. I didn’t want to post it in parts as I didn’t want to have to repeat some of the information more than once.

I’m sure I’ve barely scratched the surface of the sunscreen topic but I thought this would be a good place to start. I tried to answer everyone’s questions as best as I could and I did A LOT of research.

I know there’s more information out there but it would be impossible to have included it all into one video.

I’m sure everyone will have something to contribute but keep in mind this video contains both MY OPINION as well as factual information I’ve collected from numerous sources. This is not a forum for arguments or comments not relating to the topic of this video.

I hope you gain some good information from this video. :)

Does anyone know a sunscreen for sensitive skin? I tried the neutrogena ultra sheer dry-touch sunblock SPF 30 and it made my skin turn hard and flaky.

    Hey pinkiecharm~ …
Hey pinkiecharm~ tnx for sharing the information/review with us!

I wanted to make a recommendation: Alba Botanica makes an excellent SPF 20 facial sunscreen (in a 4oz pink tube). I buy mine at Whole Foods here in Cali for around $5-6.

It’s UVA/UVB protection with both Oxybenzone & Avobenzone. It’s perfect under both mineral & liquid makeup & does not make me break out. Oh and no sunscreeny smell. LOL!

I would totally recommend u give it a try esp out in the Cali sun! ;D *cheers*

i am pretty light skinned and bullfrog sunscreen is the only thing that works, and it has tremendous staying power. it is the product that sticks best to my skin.

    No.. brown spots …
No.. brown spots like freckles from the sun. This happens when a skin cells is exposed to the sun too long or with a weak sun block which then turns brown.

Yes it is the only …
Yes it is the only natural source for vitamin D, but you can get the necessary amount in about 10 minutes in the Sun and you should still wear sun protection.

  13. aznfreakie on September 8, 2009 at 4:43 am

    arent the sun good …

OMG… thank you!! even if it’s cloudy/overcast (i live in aus) the sun’s rays get reflected onto the cloud and onto your skin… and my friends are all like… ‘you dont need sunscreen in this weather’ and at the end of the day they end up all sunburnt and i just stare at them going HA HA I TOLD YOU SO!

xoSushi: “Anal” as in “anally retentive” which describes a person with such attention to detail that the obsession becomes an annoyance to others.

    SkinCareJunkie: I …
SkinCareJunkie: I mentioned mineral sunscreens as an annotation as I didn’t have time to go into that in the video. :)

  21. SkinCareJunkie on September 8, 2009 at 4:43 am

    Ah yes there is …
Ah yes there is also a great sunscreen ingredient called Tinosorb. From the charts I have seen and the research I’ve read Tinosorb is the best sun blocker out there. Unfortunately Tinosorb is only available in Europe. However there are a few websites that sell Tinosorb sunscreens to people in the United States. They usually ship the products over from France.

  22. SkinCareJunkie on September 8, 2009 at 4:43 am

    I also wanted to …
I also wanted to mention there is mineral types of sunscreen such PTR instant mineral sunscreen. The problem with mineral sunscreens is it’s hard to apply the correct amount to achieve the proper SPF of the product.

In researching sunscreen I’ve read that you should apply a shot glass to cover your whole body.

For the face you should apply anywhere from 1/4 to 1/2 teaspoon. I actually measure my out LOL :)

  23. SkinCareJunkie on September 8, 2009 at 4:43 am

    A great book to …
A great book to read is called The Skin Type Solution by Dr. Baumann. Sensitive skin types should avoid Avebenzone because it’s a strong irritant. When you apply your sunscreen and notice a burn more than likely it will contain Avebenzone.

  24. excellentgerwa on September 8, 2009 at 4:43 am

I used to live in …
I used to live in Seattle (now I live in oregon) and am surprised how many people think that you don’t need sunscreen/sunblock when it’s overcast. The sun rays are always around, even when it doesn’t seem sunny.

In terms of the vitamin d discussion, I agree that the sun is a great way to soak up vitamin d, but people drastically overestimate how much sun is needed to get it. A fair-skinned person only needs 10 minutes without sunscreen, a little more with.
